C-Section Doulas Are Crucial

Dear Mama,

You may be wondering… Why would I need a doula for a C-section? Why is it crucial? It’s not like I’m in labor for a long time and pushing…

Well, having had three c-sections myself, I can tell you that I 100% wish I had a doula for all three. Not only for myself, but for my husband. My own birth experiences are the main reason I became a birth doula! During such a nerve-racking and emotionally charged experience, having a professional doula by your side just makes everything better.

Imagine entering the operating room, how do you feel? Often your partner can’t be by your side until they’re ready to begin surgery, so you’re surrounded by doctors and nurses, all getting you prepped, poked and prodded and preparing themselves as well. Now imagine a doula by your side. She is talking to you in soft tones, keeping you focused on your breathing and the excitement about how soon you will be holding your baby.

In the hustle and bustle of a surgical environment, she’s there facilitating open communication between the you and the medical team, ensuring that the birth plan is honored and respected as much as possible within the unique context of the setting.

Whether you’re planning a c-section or are at higher risk for c-section delivery, know that you don’t have to go into that OR without a trusted companion. Most doctor and hospitals prefer to know in advance if you have a doula, and it’s helpful for the doula to be able to reach out to the doctor and hospital prior to the big day so understand their protocols and make sure everyone is on the same page.

After your baby arrives, your doula is there to give assistance with postpartum recovery, offering guidance on breastfeeding, bonding with the baby, and navigating the complicated emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies this major surgery.

Support doesn’t end with delivery! Your doula is there for postpartum check-ins, aiding your recovery and helping you transition into your new role as a parent with reassurance and the evidence-based information you need to care for your little one and yourself.

Choosing Guardian Angel Doula care means you’re choosing a c-section experienced doula to help you create a positive, memorable c-section experience—one filled with compassion, empowerment, and calm.

Your Doula,

Katie
